While brainstorming for available domains for my website it's pretty easy to see that almost everything has been taken. The sad thing is that you can think of several domains that would suit your idea but the fact is that most of the key words that you would like to use have most definitely been taken. The worst part about it is that. Most of the domains that are taken aren't even in use. Part of that is because more than fifty percent of startups fail. But the bigger issue that is that people have bought domains as an investment rather than to be creative or run an actual business that helps someone. Nope, they have bought up a lot of domains much like the housing and land industries, not to use, but to hold onto until someone comes along and is willing to pay at a higher price than necessary. I understand that it is just how business works but there is just something that doesn’t sit right with me about that.
For the reasons mentioned, this is why creating your own brand is so cool. You can literally create your own word and make it known to the world, like Nike, for example. I think it would be a fun experiment to just create your own word and use it on every platform possible until it was known worldwide.
Another thing that is to take note of is that the actual domain doesn’t matter that much anymore. Writing with fantastic key words for SEO rich content will get people to your page. Its really just more important to pick something and get started.
Another random thought that comes to mind when I think about domains is the message that you get from the domain registrar, like GoDaddy, that says something to the effect of; "domain.com is taken but for $69.99 we might be able to get it for you." Ok well it might be worth it if you were really set on that particular domain name. But its also kind of a scam. Look at what comes up when you look up amazon.com. It is a little comical.
